hughes ranch

this past weekend, we traveled to a place near austin, tx to visit some new friends on their ranch.

dane’s coworker, kendall, and his wife, nicole, invited us to spend the weekend with their family.

wow.  i don’t think i can even process what all happened in just 36 hours.  they call it ‘adult camp’ because there are so many fun things to do!

check it out.

this is nyssa and james (nicole’s sister and brother-in-law) in the ‘studio’ showing us one of their inventions.  yeah, they’re inventors. pretty neat.

the movie room and library.  here is kendall (caleb calls him kennel) and nicole watching the video they took while riding the go cart.  that artwork was done by nyssa.  yeah, she’s an artist, too!

she’s also a knife thrower!  we had a knife throwing competition with homemade knives.  that’s something i’ve never done before.

but i did pretty good for my first try.

this is howard, nyssa and nicole’s dad.  he used to be a doctor and they have lived all over the world.  he had some interesting stories to share and was our ringleader when it came to activities.

this was caleb’s first time on a trampoline…

oh my gosh, we had so much fun.

an invention for working on your surfing skills.  this is nicole and it’s harder than it looks!

i use my hand to test exposure.  i normally don’t keep these photos, but i loved this one because my hand was so dirty!  wait til you see my son…

look at his knees!

yeah, we ALL hopped in when we got back to the house.

then it was time for tacos!!  here’s nicole and her mom, theralyn.

and the whole family.  they were totally awesome for having us and taking us on adventures!

we asked the Giant Brain a few questions…

dane and james got along really well since they love talking gadgets and electronics.

here’s what our mornings looked like.  reading, coffee, and activities on the back porch overlooking a river.

after several hours…he was done! still a cutie, though.

I love all of these pictures! That was such a fun weekend, and you captured it beautifully! I think “camp Hughes” should be on future bucket lists along with a smaller bucket list of art/engineering projects.
